It rained a bit last night, and the wind picked up immensely. Our goal was to depart for Niagara Falls around 7am, but instead we slept in when we woke to the wind whipping against the tent. The wind persisted and made for slow progress. Fortunately, though, the storm predicted for noon didn’t arrive until night.
We happened upon a demonstration of the original five-tiered canal lock in Lockport, which was very impressive.
Thanks again to Tom, Leah and Hunter for your hospitality and generosity 🙂  After breakfast, we were sent off with sandwiches, peanut butter cookies, and even an aromatherapy roller for relaxing muscle spasms, which we are excited to try!
We woke to a cool, breezy day in Penfield and were treated to a different kind of ride: in a buggy behind Hauk, a Norwegian Fjord pony.  Jessica is a great driver!
It was sad to leave the cottage this morning, but we comforted ourselves by planning to return on our drive back East once we’re finished with biking, if we have the time.
We rode a tailwind up to Seneca Falls and had lunch under a pavilion which was conveniently located across the street from a small market.  Leftover steak and and some mixed veggies made for a great lunch and had us energized for the afternoon.
A few days into our trip, I asked Chris, when I get homesick out here on the road, where am I homesick for? Somerville, Bozeman, Ithaca? My mom made a good point one time that it’s not where, but who. It’s the family and the friends that we miss so much.
Today, we got to not only rest our weary bodies, but also to get some awesome time with my extended family.
