July = Lazy?

July 14 - Boo!This past months summary from MMR was a sad one.  I got the email last week and it only had these 2 rides in it, for a total of ~43 miles.  The car accident definitely slowed down my training for our cross country ride.  But I actually did do more rides than are shown on here, I was also pretty lazy about recording rides this month.  I have a feeling August will be much more impressive though 🙂  Possibly even our first attempt at a weekend bike tour!

Accent nail

Accent nailYou were right, accent nails are fun 🙂  Next time I go rafting I’ll hafta wear gloves, or cut my nails beforehand… or just be more careful!

Speaking of rafting though, we should do one of the rivers in Maine when we get a chance.  The one near Katahdin (the Penobscot) is supposed to be really awesome, but pretty extreme.  Corey really wants to do it sometime.  Compared to that, it sounds like our trip down the Deerfield river would just be a warm-up.

A couple that rides together….

Can you believe I got them to go biking with me?  It wasn’t full-on mountain biking, but there were some decent trails we rode on and then a bunch of roads for a total of 20mi.  At one point during the ride, while we were on the trails and going downhill, the thought of if Julie crashed and got all beat up, it would be so bad being less than 1 week before the wedding!  She did well though, and took her time through the more difficult sections and finished the ride completely unscathed, which was a bit of a relief.  I still want to take Casey (and Julie if she’s up for it…) for a real mountain biking ride some day though to see if I can get him hooked :-).

  • Notable happenings:
    • Casey got stung by a bee in his driveway just before we got started
    • We went to the site of the “New Hartford Foam Dome”  Unfortunately, it apparently had recently been torn down, but there are plenty of pictures on Google, one of which I included below.  Casey was really bummed that it was gone.  Apparently he and Tony had stumbled upon it while skinning one winter, and he was really excited to take Julie and I to see it.  Julie had also heard of it (from Casey, but she had also read about it in a recent article in the newspaper, so thats why I’m thinking it was very recent that it was taken down).  From the pictures, it looked awesome, so I was also kinda bummed, but didn’t know it was there in the first place or that Casey was hoping to take us there.

Casey’s bachelor party

IMG_0004I’m sure it’s no surprise that I brought my usual games – cornhole, polish horseshoes, and giant jenga.  I’d say it was cornhole or giant jenga that got the most attention, but Casey, Corey, Jaime and I had a great game of polish horseshoes Saturday afternoon.  You can see most of our site in these pictures, also.  It was perfect for our group… plenty of space so that every person could have their own tent, and then still enough room for games and a bunch of cars.  We even had our own water spicket and a huge fire pit!IMG_0007After scavenging for some firewood the first night to supplement the small amount of firewood we purchased from the campground (which wasn’t a very good deal per usual), which turned out to be super wet.  With that wood, our fire the first night wasn’t very awesome.  On the second night though, we got creative for our source of firewood.  One way was to drop a few trees near our site, one of which you can see me working on below.  It was so tough to get down, though, that I had to use my 3rd arm!

IMG_0010As a result, the fire the 2nd night was much more exciting.  We had fun melting plenty of beer cans and even some bottles.  And we had some near-empty citronella candles which provided some very high flames.  This picture below was funny because Casey had fallen asleep, and then we got the fire huge and he was still sleeping for a while despite being so close.  At one point, he was sleeping and Jaime lit up a small firework and dropped it directly underneath his chair.  When that went off he was startled and jumped up instantly… we were lucky he didn’t jump into the fire.  Everyone else got a good laugh at least, though.IMG_0012Unfortunately, there were no pictures taken rafting – but as you can see below it was very tiring!!  Casey’s shirt was compliments of Charity & Cameron, and he wore it all weekend.IMG_0014All in all, I think the party was a success.  Definitely not as glamorous as Julie’s, but I really think everyone enjoyed themselves.  It was just nice to get everyone together to hang out and have some fun.
