Jay Peak with Aunt Bonnie

My Tuesday to Thursday trip to Jay Peak with Aunt Bonnie was such a treat! It was pretty exciting to only work on Monday and Friday that week, and we had a blast exploring the mountain and the resort.

On the drive up, we stopped at Molly’s in Hanover for lunch. I chose this meal, because the tostones (fried plantains) reminded me of our honeymoon. (They forgot avocado, so they brought it out later, after I took this picture)

Aunt Bonnie ordered these delectable fish tacos:

After lunch, we finished our journey to Jay. Aunt Bonnie had arranged for us to stay right at the foot of the mountain at the Stateside Hotel! We arrived too late to ski on Tuesday, but we walked around and explored the resort. The water park was large and looked like fun. However, the thought of swimming in other peoples dead skin cells and hair and the like makes Aunt Bonnie and I skeeve, so we decided against trying it out.

For our first dinner, we decided to go to the Foundry. We both ordered some red wine, and I chose the scallops (of course) while she chose a savory gnocchi dish:When we couldn’t find a nice fireplace to sit by, we retired to our room to read. Uncle Ken had packed us some goody bags with chocolate, cashews, cookies, and other treats that were so yummy!

In the morning, we went back over to the foundry for a phenomenal eggs benny breakfast:

After that, we hit the slopes! A few runs were icy, but overall, the skiing was great. We enjoyed some chili and clam chowder in bread bowls for lunch at the Stateside Cafeteria. After the lifts closed, we read even more, and I wound up finishing the book that you gave me for Christmas –  My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry by Fredrik Backman. I thoroughly enjoyed both the book and the relaxing. We went back to the Foundry for a third time for dinner, where we got some scrumptious pizzas (I forgot to take a picture before I scarfed it down, but I did bring you home some leftovers; you’re welcome 😉 ).

On Thursday, our last day, we tried out the breakfast buffet at Howie’s. We enjoyed orange juice, pancakes, sausages, eggs, and more.

It was actually snowing this morning! The conditions were lovely!

We had seen signs for “Bonnie”, and we were determined to find this elusive ski run.

The run didn’t appear on any maps, so I finally asked a liftie. He informed me that it was a chairlift, not a ski run. Still, we couldn’t find a “Bonnie” chairlift. Finally, I realized that it must be a nickname for the Bonaventure Quad, which was visible from our room at the hotel! The liftie at Bonaventure Quad confirmed our conclusion, and asked if Aunt Bonnie’s name was also short for Bonaventure.

We concluded our ski day a little early so that we could start the trek back to Amherst. Before we left, we tried some food from Alice’s Kitchen: The trip was a wonderful midweek break, and I really enjoyed the quality time with Aunt Bonnie!
